Sew a Maxi Dress: Charlie Caftan

Nothing says summer elegance quite as well as a dramatic caftan. Charlie is a fresh take on this warm weather staple.

All versions feature a deep V neckline, short dolman sleeves, inset center panel and roomy pockets. View A is modern and architectural with striking pleats beneath the bust. For a softer, more romantic dress, Views B & C feature a gently gathered bodice with an optional waist tie for a figure-skimming silhouette in two skirt lengths. You may also choose between a dramatically wide sleeve, or one slightly higher cut for more coverage.

In this box, you will receive the pattern, fabric of your choice, and all the notions to match your fabric

Fabric Options: Read more about the fabric options here.

  • Royal Blue Neon Neppy Chambray - It's hard to see in the swatch photo, but this chambray actually has slub threads of neon yellow and pink speckled throughout the surface. With a soft, medium bodied drape, this fabric will allow you to play with the volume of this pattern without feeling like you're wearing a tent. And honestly, who doesn't love a chambray dress?
  • Nani Iro Teal Floral Double Gauze - The first fabric I thought of for this dress was double gauze. And this Nani Iro double gauze is as good as it gets. It's light and airy and perfect for a summer cover up when you want some protection for the sun without too much weight. The bright turquoise color, with large scale flowers across its face, will make for a bold and beautiful maxi dress.

Also in this box: Matching thread, interfacing, and a sewing machine needle.
