As I'm writing this, I have been snowed in twice this year so far, and each time, all I want to do is wrap myself in snuggly clothes and sit under a blanket. For December, we scratched that itch with turtleneck tops, and for February, we're going a step further with cozy knit pullover jackets.
Usually, we pick easy to complete projects for February since the month is so short. And you're probably thinking that jackets are not exactly easy projects. But with fleeces and puffy knits, pullover jackets are nearly as easy as t-shirts. And we bet you get just as much wear out of them!
For colors, we're going full saturation with vibrant purples and yellows (complementary colors, if you noticed). Plus a splash of creamy ivory for those who want a neutral look. We think they will brighten the middle of winter and keep you styling, even if it's just underneath a blanket while snowed in.
So, without further ado, let's dig in!
Sew Essential Box: Alex Half-Zip Pullover from Jalie Patterns
About as classic a fleece pullover as you can get, the Jalie Alex Pullover is made for winter layering. With an elastic hem, top yoke, and a zipper opening, this pattern will come together quickly. All the better to throw it on when you're running errands or even pottering around your house.
The fabrics we've chosen work well for both indoor and outdoor wear, so, in theory, you never really have to take it off. And isn't that the best when you love a new make?
- Nugget Gold Bamboo Cotton Fleece - This fleece is about as cozy as it comes! The cousin of our favorite bamboo cotton french terry, this fabric trades the looped back for a fluffy, brushed face that is dreamily soft. Plus, the color, a golden yellow, is warm and sunshiney. All the better to add a kick of brightness to cold winter days!
- Blackberry Polar Fleece - This dark purple fleece is soft and breathable, with a shearling-like fuzziness on the right side. The moderate drape will give structure to this pullover and the plush feel will keep you snuggly and warm. Designed to resist pilling, it will stay lofty through wear, which is ideal because you won't want to take this fabric off!
- Ivory Cable Fable Embossed Knit - Embossed on one side with a knitted cable pattern, this fabric mimics the looks of handknitting without the effort. Sturdy and plush, the fabric feels like a sweatshirt knit and will be so cozy as a loungewear layer or light jacket. The ivory color is versatile and chic, and you can play with the pattern to create your own unique look!

Sew Select Box: Pogonip Pullover from Friday Pattern Company
The first pullover in the recent trend among the indie companies, the Pogonip Pullover oozes cool. The cropped style is just a little out of the ordinary, and the wide placket has a little je ne sais quoi. If you hadn't guessed, we're a bit enamored with the pattern.
Paired with plush, stable knits, this pattern transforms into a wonderful layering piece. Wear it as a sweater when the office is too cold or wear it as a jacket when the temperatures rise into the 40s. Either way, you'll look as amazing as you feel!
- Raisin Fleece-Backed Sherpa - The key to this sherpa fleece is its double-face. One side is a curly, sherpa fleece, designed to mimic lambswool, while the other side is a smooth, snuggly polar fleece. Together, they are the fabric that pullover dreams are made of. The deep raisin hue is dark and luxurious, and you can pick and choose which side of the fleece you want as your right side for a tone-on-tone color-block that is truly unique. Get ready for the coziest thing you've ever made!
- Ivory Polar Fleece - This snowy white fleece is soft and breathable, with a shearling-like fuzziness on the right side. The moderate drape will give structure to this pullover and the plush feel will keep you snuggly and warm. Designed to resist pilling, it will stay lofty through wear, which is ideal because you won't want to take this fabric off!
- Mustard Geo Quilt Puff Knit - With raised, geometric blocks on one side and a smooth back on the other, this fabric will add depth and complexity to this pullover. Medium weight, with a soft, yet slightly structured drape, this knit gives the illusion of a quilted fabric with all the coziness of a jersey. Plus the bright mustard yellow is a breath of fresh air on dreary winter days. Now, this is a combo we can get behind!

Sew Indulgent Box: Antwerp Pullover from Liesl & Co
We'd been searching for a third pattern to complete this theme for a while, and then we lucked upon this amazing pullover. What sold us were the side buttons, which just elevate the entire look beyond your traditional pullover.
With drape and ease, this pattern lands somewhere between sweatshirt, shirt, and jacket. And when paired with fluffier knits, we're aiming for this pullover to feel like a cozy blanket you wear anywhere. We can't get enough of it!
- Ivory Quilted Cotton Knit - A unique "quilted" knit, this fabric is actually a double knit with a thin layer of cotton batting in between. The look resembles quilted cotton but with all the characteristics of a knit. In a dreamy cream, this fabric is thin yet plush, a perfect combination for this layering piece. A truly one of a kind look!
- Ochre Boucle Wool - With the look of boiled wool and the feel of snuggly fleece, this boucle is a dream of a fabric. And we're here for it with this lovely earthy yellow version. A polyester that mimics wool, this fabric is touchably soft with a fuller drape to show off more draped coating styles. An absolute knockout of a fabric!
- Concord Teddy Fleece - Somewhere between a minky and a sherpa, this fabric is SOFT. It gives you all the delights of a fleece but with a snuggly, oh so cozy, feel of a faux wool. And the color! It reminds us of grape jelly and rich plums, and we love it. Sumptuous and soft, this fabric is made to be your next favorite layer!
