Cold Weather Calls for Comfy Robes

I've been watching The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, and when I'm not grinning ear to ear at the excellent writing and great performances, I'm swooning over the clothes all the characters wear. Have you found yourself doing this: looking at someone's outfit and thinking, "How is that put together? How could I make that myself?"?  One of the the things that I'm ogling is the dressing gown. It's one of those pieces that has gotten lost to history a little bit. People don't spend the morning in their dressing gowns any more. I myself am a T-shirt and flannel pants lounger myself. But I want to change that. And this month's theme is an attempt to do just that. This month,...

Genius! You can read the rest of the article here. Tips for Sewing Corduroy Fabric

'Tis the Season for Sewing Party Dresses

Over here at Needle Sharp, I'm living a retail schedule. For those of you who have not had the pleasure of working in a retail store, let me explain: Everything you do is roughly two to three months ahead of schedule. Back to School starts in June (a thought that makes the kid in me cry just a little bit). Valentine's Day kicks off on January 2. And, I guarantee you that at Walmarts, Targets, Best Buys and Barnes and Nobles across the country, they are frantically preparing to switch over to Christmas right now.  I know, I know, that's crazy! It's not even Halloween yet!! But, then again, the Halloween candy went out in grocery stores in mid-August, so that...

We ❤️ Layers: Three-Season Sewing with Lovely Blazers

I don't know about you, but the weather around me has taken a turn towards the cooler side of things. To some of you, that may be sad news, but I truly enjoy the fall weather: leaves changing, cooler but not cold days, warm apple cider... Okay, that last one isn't weather related, but still worth mentioning. The problem with autumn days is that it can be quite cool in the morning then, when the sun comes out, almost summer like by mid-afternooon. I've been caught quite a few times wearing a nice, cozy sweater to work only to be sweating through it by lunch. So what to do? Dress in layers!! That's why this month we've chosen blazers and...
